I have some questions for those of you who struggle with constipation or blockages. What stool softener or laxative have you found the most helpful? and how much do you take? Also, do you take a fiber supplement in addition, or does the one replace the need for the other? And if you take fiber, which one would you recommend and again, how much do you take? I am just now, 2 years out with my j pouch, feeling a need to keep my stools flowing and not clog up due to a pain medication I take. The medication has a common side effect of constipation and while my pouch was healing from take down and in the first two years, the pain medicine balanced out my loose stools and I still needed a daily Imodium Now everything has changed! I don't need the Imodium at all and I need something to manage constipation. Quite a turn around! I have a healthy diet, drink lots of water and exercise regularly. I could use all of your experience, wisdom and advice about all of this.

My preference is for Metamucil, a rounded tablespoon in about 8 ounces of water twice a day with a meal. I take it just before breakfast and dinner, while others prefer after dinner. There are lots of ways to loosen things up, and others are likely to suggest other methods. Give something a try and pay attention to how it works for you.
