Okay so i got rid of my j-pouch last july and since then i have had problems with my barbie butt (no rectum/opening) not healing and because it wont heal i keep getting abscesses. My doctor wants to put a wound vac over it. Has anyone ever had a wound vac put on their bottom before? Did it work? Was getting a good seal hard? How long did you have to have it? Were you allowed to work with it? Anything you can tell me about it would be helpful.

When I had mine done they didn't do wound vac but Hemovac...It was  tube going into the wound that they kept in there for a week or 2...Don't quite remember...It sucked out all of the fluids and allowed the wound to heal from inside out...It was a pain, litterally, but it worked...it was one of the only wounds that actually closed normally.

I would try it...if at all possible...anything to get that wound to heal...

I have had a wound vac on my abdomen from 2nd stage operation ( formation of pouch and loop ileostomy).  I had an infection in the wound and it came open and then needed to be fully opened to allow it to drain. I had a wound bag for a week or so but it was channelling and not healing properly. Had wound vac connected and the healing was incredible, loads of fluid was pumped out for first week but after that the wound literally healed before my eyes !! I cannot comment on how effective it will be on the bottom but it was brilliant for my wound. I hope all goes well.
