I had the same problem. I had my so-called "take down" surgery on July 20 and my surgeon's nurse advised me to do three things:

1. Drink LOTS of fluids
2. Take 1 teaspoon of Metamucil with water 3x a day
3. Use Desitin ointment around the sensitive areas of the anal opening.

I did all three of these just before going to bed and my next bowel movement came out very smoothly--and without the burning sensation that has plauged me during the first two weeks following this recent surgery.

I did one other thing: I bought a bidet toilet seat, which allows me to rinse clean and dry in the anal area following each bowel movement. That has really helped. I am not "home free" yet, but i start work back on Monday after taking off two weeks for this surgery so I am hoping it will all go well!
My pouch seems to be WAY more active at night than during the day no matter what I do. I don't have a har time going at all, in fact I go too much! From like 6pm to 6am. I feel like it waits in there all day! I go during the day of course, but the urgency feeling and the frequency feeling seem to save themselves for the night time. It's wide awake at night and sleeps on me duing the day.
