Hi Cate87. I had almost the same problem as you. This is my third ileostomy. This one is permanent. A day after my last fistula repair (2nd one), it leaked. It was devastating. I had the ileostomy surgery the next day. It was actually a relief. No more pain & burning & I could actually leave the house again. I'm going back in the hospital in 2 weeks to have the j-pouch removed. My Dr. feels it is crohn's even though the tests were inconclusive. I'm not thrilled but at least I can function. Send me a message if you would like to chat.
Hi Cate...as DB said I am adjusting quite well to my perm ostomy. It's all relative...I was very, very sick with my j-pouch, so the ostomy is a piece of cake comparitively speaking. Do I like having an ostomy...well no...I'd rather be healthy without any digestive disorders...but I have adapted well...and don't let it get in the way of too many things in my life. Feel free to PM me...hoping the best for you!
Went to an end ileostomy on July 9 2012. My J Pouch was a failure and I had incontinence. I managed for about 21 months but it was affecting my life style and I was adapting to an much less active life then I wanted. 3 weeks into the ileostomy I am still tweaking the pouching system but really enjoying more freedom. I am currently on no medication and have slept all night without getting up a couple of times, though sometimes I empty once. It isn't perfect but far,far better for me then the J pouch. My pouch is still in place and I will likely have it removed in the future.
