Due to years of UC trial and error with every drug/injection/infusion, I had a total colectomy with an ileostomy and a J pouch built in Sept. '16. Thankfully, cancer of my appendix was discovered that I never would have known until it was too late. Dec. '16 after J pouch healed I had spleen, gall bladder and half adrenal gland also removed followed by a chemo wash of the abdomen. The stoma was closed and J pouch activated.

It is now late Aug '17 and I still have terrible incontinence issues and 20+ bathroom trips daily. I eat 5-7 small meals daily. No fresh fruit, veggies, salads for over a year. I take liquid Imodium, Lomotil, Metamucil, Octreotide monthly injections. My docs say give it more time but I'm getting very frustrated because I'm otherwise healthy and 'young' for my age. I know reverting back to an ileostomy is a permanent decision, but what can anyone tell me about the K pouch - and what is BCIR?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

JO, I second your doctor’s suggestion about giving your pouch more time.  You may wish to get a second opinion from a doctor who has lots of experience in dealing with difficult j pouch problems.  Cleveland Clinic is one place to consider.  You should also read recent posts on this forum with a subject heading like yours which can be found at: https://www.j-pouch.org/topic/w...9#564965618996802709. I posted two responses there that give more information about the k pouch and the BCIR.  My first post contains a lengthy chart comparing the j pouch, k pouch/BCIR and the end ileostomy.  There is a lot of information about all of these alternatives on the internet.  I personally know what it is like to have an excessive number of BM’s every day, and that was part of why I opted for a BCIR.  Please feel free to send me a PM if you would like more information.
