I've reached a point where facing another day is almost unbearable.  I feel overwhelmed, depressed and lathargic. Looking for ways to pull out of this and accept the fact that this is my life.

Looking for suggestions on how to live with this disease. Self help book recommendation, something inspirational. I am getting therapy, but its expensive and ive already spent our life savings on this illness.

I was diagnosed in 1979 with UC. J Pouch surgery in 1985. Feels like most of my life...

Hi,

We are both long time J-pouchers, I was kinda in the same boat although I’ve never went to therapy for this. This is my life, since I was 18, now 56. I found that doing more research and changing doctors really has helped me. I needed something new, I started seeing a wellness doctor who focused on nutrition instead of drugs. It really has helped me quite a bit. I’ve been through so much in my life that this Disease is almost the least of my problems.

I sure hope your able to find something that helps.

Hi YT

Can you share a few tips with us on natural healing and nutrition please?

Hi Maddie18,

The first thing I did was see a nutritionist to find out what foods I was allergic to and foods that just kept me having to be near a bathroom all day.

My new wellness doctor took me off of Metamucil (really didn’t work very well) and told me to take 2 teaspoons of ground flax seed, I mix it with applesauce, also has me taking fiber one cereal 1/3 cup daily. I don’t take them both, one or the other. They stop me up pretty well.  He also wants me to try to eat as much colored fruits & veggies. It’s hard with Jpouchers but I do try. He also put me on 40mg of Pepcid daily. It really has helped with nauseousness. Just these few things have really changed my life dramatically.

The “diarrhea” part of this disease for me has a lot to do with what I put in my mouth.
