Hi all,

I'm having some weird symptoms and I can't see the doctor for a week. So.. here goes. What do you think of this:

Start having liquidy stool and a lot of difficulty emptying a month ago. Pouch function before that had been great.

GI prescribed Augmentin (Amoxicillin + something) for what we assumed to be pouchitis.

Took the course of antibiotics and it didn't help. In the meantime, the difficulty of emptying, meant that I was really sitting a long time and tightening my stomach muscles trying not to force it.

My abdominal muscles started to ACHE. Like a lot! Figured it would get better.

It's still really achy. And my stomach feels tight -- like a corset on me. I'm wondering... c diff? I remember having a tightening in my stomach when I had c diff when I had a colon.

If it could be c diff... is it dangerous to wait a week to see the doctor? I'm a new patient, so it's not like I can just call and get some advice early. They don't know me. My old doctor is far away, but maybe I just call her anyway.

Will be grateful for opinions and thoughts on this. Thank you!

Has Augmentin worked for you previously (for pouchitis)?

Are you sure the pouch is full when it won’t produce stool (e.g. does a reasonable amount of stool eventually come out)? There’s a big difference between a full pouch that won’t empty vs. a feeling of fullness but a nearly empty pouch.

C. diff can feel many different ways, but I think watery stools, frequency, and urgency are common. It’s not really dangerous to wait, but it’s uncomfortable and infectious. Also, C. diff doesn’t really seem like your most likely source of trouble, at least to me.

Thanks for the quick replies. Very grateful to have a little company right now.

Jan -- I can't take Cipro because of a drug interaction and I have had a bad reaction to Flagyl (heart palpitations) in the past. So I wound up with Augmentin which I haven't taken before ever.

Part of what I'm feeling now feels like painful gas, which is odd since I very rarely have that, and certainly not for hours.

Have had my pouch for 5 years and pouchitis twice -- each time it cleared up quickly. Once, without antibiotics and just some Canasa suppositories.
