I always here about VSL#3 being great for pouchitis and its actually approved for pouchitis. It is not very cheap and from what I read , the daily dosage is between 2-8 packets?? that seems crazy. What is in VSL#3 that is not in a comparable probiotic thats alot cheaper and dont have to take up to 8 times a day

Regarding my insurance coverage, no matter how many packets of VSL #3 DS i buy, it looks like i will pay $315.00 for a 90 day mail order supply.  The VSL website says 1-2 packets a day of DS for pouchitis maintainance. Would they question if the doctor wrote the prescription for 8 packets a day?? Thay way I can pay the $315 and make it last a full year? or would they say no way?? and if i did order that much, can it stay safely in the fridge for several months??
