My Dr. wants me to take 6 grams of VSL 3 daily. How many packets or pills should I take? Also, are the packets better than pills or does it not make a difference?

I use 2 sachets of VSL#3DS daily. I can't find a weight for them or on the box or packet. My drug insurance covers them, after I meet my huge deductible. It only covers DS, which means double strength. There are 900 billion bacteria with 8 strains of live, freeze-dried lactic acid lacteria.
Can you call her/him back and ask for more information?

I was using 1 sachet daily until a few months ago. The increase has helped me stay off of antibiotics for my pouchitis and I am feeling better.

It's generally not prescribed in grams. It could be dosed in capsules, packets/sachets, or CFUs. The *maximum* recommended dose is four double-strength packets/day.
