vomiting and diarrhea

I have had my j-pouch since 1994 and have done fairly well. I was diagnosed a couple of years ago with Irritable Pouch Syndrome and put on 50 mg. of Elavil each day. So far my pouch has done very well on the Elavil. The problem I am having now is intermittent diarrhea and vomiting. It usually happens at night. I will be lying in bed and all at once start vomiting and will vomit until I dry heave. Sometimes I will wake up in the middle of the night and have watery diarrhea for the rest of the night. Unfortunately sometimes I have both vomiting and diarrhea at the same time. I would say this happens at least once a month and is becoming more frequent. Anyone have any idea what could be going on with me? I am going to see my GI for a scope in a couple of months, but I may need to go sooner. Also does anyone know the symptoms of pouch failure? I know after having the pouch for 19 years the chances of failure go up. thanks

This may not have anything to do with your jpouch so try to relax. I think you have made a good decision by following up with your GI, but sooner rather than later.
