Has anyone had bad effects from taking vitamin D capsules? I have had several incidents of GI upset after taking them, but it’s hard to know because I have upsets all the time.

Tried again yesterday having forgotten previous upsets and was awake all night – gas, bloating, mild cramps, endless BMs.

(I know taking too much can cause problems, but I’m just asking about bad effects from a single dose.)

Trouble like that with a single dose isn’t likely to have anything to do with the vitamin D itself, I think. How high a dose was it?  You might have a hypersensitivity to an “inactive” ingredient in that particular formulation, or the timing could be coincidental, unrelated to the dose at all. I take a 5,000 IU capsule of vitamin D every day, and it’s just fine in my gut. I do tend to take it with food, since I think nutritional supplements often work better that way.
