Hi Everyone,

I have a Jpouch. 3 weeks ago I had a routine poucoscopy which showed active pouchitis. Dr. said it looked healthy, but biopsy showed inflammation. I've read (correct me if I am wrong) that people with Jpouches always show signs of inflammation on a biopsy. I was feeling great so did not think anything of it.

Then a week went by and I was feeling sort of backed up, constipated, never feeling like I was emptying enough. I took a few stool softeners and a little milk of magnesium. That always helps to get me back to regular. It did for a few days.

Then, just 2 night ago all of sudden when I came home from work I felt nausea and my stool was 100% liquid. Felt like I was doing a colonoscopy prep with all the liquid coming out. I stated Cipro yesterday evening and so far has not helped (2nd dose). It typically works quickly for me and often makes my stool too dry quite fast. I woke up last night going to the bathroom and then threw up a little (which helped alleviate some of the nausea).

Now, typically when I have pouchitis I have a raw/inflammed feeling in my pouch. No Nausea. The stool is semi-liquid and irritating. This time it is just all liquid.

Does this seem like pouchitis to you all or maybe food poisoning?

Appreciate your thoughts. If this continues much longer, I will call the DR. Monday AM.

In the meantime, I am drinking lots of fluid, eating BRAT foods, etc.

I would say probably not pouchitis. I would heavily lean toward stomach flu or food poisoning, but you could have also had a blockage that's now resolved. If you have lost a substantial amount of fluids, you may need a trip to the doc for an IV to rehydrate. But sounds like you are getting plenty liquids down now so you should be ok.
It is now day 4 and I still have VERY watery bowel movements. It is also day 3 of Cipro. It is like a huge gush of liquid coming out with each bowel movement. No pain or irritation. Appetite is less than normal. Very slight nasea now.

I called the on call doctor and they said come to the ER if it doesn't improve, I get fever, etc. Do not think she had any idea.

hmm...this is driving me crazy! If I had cramps, I would think it is pouchitis, but this is just lots of super watery bowel movements.
Just overnight I went from extreme watery BMs to very thick stool. The thick (almost constipating) BMs are typical for me after being on Cipro for a few days.

My body is confusing the heck outta me. Haha

If BMs stay too thick do you think I should take some stool softenrs? Milk of magnesia until I'm off the Cipro to ensure I'm emptying completely?
