hi after seeing dr shen in oct and hving my third results over 4 years come back with clean jpouch no inflammation he believes i have chronic bacterial growth over these last 6 years..my ongoing treatment was rotating antibiotics because pouchitis or overgrowth treated the same way..this was working for me past 4 years..

however he has been suggesting i try belladonna /opium suppositories instead of antibiotics as a preferred alternative..i have resisted this but finally decided to give it a try because for past year or more have been on culturelle(lactosbacilus) florester and recently added align(bifidolactobacilus).. my past thinking ,figured since i am on antibiotics all the time might as well try to keep up the two most studied probiotics..and now with overgrowth bacteria as underlyimg problem it made more sense still

anyway he told me to start the B/O and after a few days drop antibiotic..well i waited more than that..(especially since for first time in years i was able to maintain myself with one half dosage of levaquin)..also i got serious about eliminating sugar except raw fruit which he has been telling me for a few years!

so far only three days so i have a way to go to see if this works with probiotics and cutting out sugar..

has anyone else going to shen been told to use B/o?anyone else have success with it?

My daughter used them for anal pain. They helped. However, a week or so after starting them she developed really bad headaches and nausea/vomiting every day. She went through that for over a month before we suspected the B&O. She stopped using them and after a week or so her headaches and nausea/vomiting were pretty much gone.

So, yes they did help her with the pain but we are pretty certain she had bad side effects and stopped them.
wow kelsie not good the side effects you mention..do not know if that is common or unusual..i am not on them a week yet and i never even thought about such bad side effects..hoping that is not a factor..will keep updating...sorry it did not work for your daughter..

p.s did she use two suppositories one in morning ,one at night?did you ask doctor about symptoms and if that was common?
I am not sure how common it is. Yes, she used one in the morning and one at night for the most part. I asked about it being a possible cause of her headaches/nausea/vomiting and never got a response. We just decided to stop them and see, and it all went away, so one can only assume it was the cause. She is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday, so she won't be able to use them anymore anyway.

She may be a rare example. She also got the "prednisone" side effects from using cortifoam which isn't supposed to give you the moon face either, but she still got it. Not as bad as being on actual pred, but still noticeable.

I would say it is still worth a try to see if they help you. Hopefully they aren't as expensive for you as they were for us--$521 a month OUR cost!
