I had my pouch surgery in 2005 and overall have done very well. I am scheduled to under go another surgery in 3 weeks for different reasons and am a bit worried about it. Not the surgery itself, but is there anyway to keep from having leakage duringthe 2 hour surgery or for the following 18-20 hours before they start having me walk around? I am considering only having fluids for the full 24 hours before surgery, that might help, but I also don't want to take anything to slow things down if it will dehydrate me before surgery.... anyone have any advice? Thanks!

I have had three surgeries since my take-down, and have found that the medications I have been given slow my gut down tremendously. Narcotics are notorious for causing constipation!

I wouldn't go on liquids only, as that has a tendency to make my output watery and that much harder to control.

And remember, even if you do have an accident, these people deal with it every day. The world will not implode.

Best wishes on your surgery and a speedy recovery!
