Hey everyone!

I have a question for all of you on here that use a butt cream. I've had my jpouch for almost 7 years and I have never used a cream before. I've only had really bad butt burn the first few months post takedown. I have had a fistulotomy though, and a couple days ago my incision for it started to hurt. I checked it out and there looked like a little sinus or opening in the incision, then it drained some stuff. I thought it was better it was opening on the outside then inside my pouch, like the fistula had done before the surgery. I kept it clean, and now it's fully healed with no pain/irritation/inflammation.

So I see my doctor next tuesday, I want to know of an awesome prescription cream that'll moisturize, has maybe some anti-biotic power?, and an anti-inflammatory, just to keep everything down there happy? Just want to keep that incision happy, and everything moisturized and protected a bit, since I've had some mild butt burn lately.

Thanks for the help!

I'm not familiar with any particular prescription cream; perhaps others here can field that question.

In the meantime, before you see your doctor, if you want to keep the area protected I don't think there's any reason why you can't use an OTC cream. My favourite barrier cream is and always has been Calmoseptine. Unfortunately, it's no longer distributed for commercial sale in Canada due to labeling changes, but you can still buy it on ebay or Amazon.com and shipping is usual reasonable.

If not that, I do use Desitin, however, as cod liver oil is a prominent ingredient, I do find the smell of the cream to be unpleasant.

As for anti-inflammatory, about the only OTC products I could think of for that would be a cortisone-based ointment or cream, or a hemorrhoid preparation. If you're looking to moisturize, plain old Vaseline does work wonders.

A nurse had told me to clean with witch hazel after BMs. Witch hazel is supposed to be good for swelling and is an ingredient in Tuck's pads. I do find it works, though as I've said in other posts, many drugstore brands are distilled with alcohol, so you have to find one with a lower alcohol content or else it'll sting like a dickens when you put it on.
