Hi, my names Natasha. My husband and I have been trying to conceive since Jan 2013. I dont do charting etc but I do track my ovulation using an app. We have an appointment with a fertility dr on the 25th of this month. I just wanted to see if anyone else is in a similar situation - jpouch and not conceived yet. The thing I find hardest is having regular sex - alot of the time it hurts or I feel gross or uncomfortable (bowel wise) and it kills the mood for me and I get quite anxious about the pain. Does anyone else feel this way when it comes to the Jpouch and intercourse?

Thanks Smiler

No to the pain. Took me 9 months to become pregnant, no tracking. Never got pregnant again. Somewhere upwards of 52% of women have issues getting pregnant naturally after J pouches. Cleveland Clinic did a study about that. Here's one study I found:

Had a cyst removed the year after my daughter was born, and the gyne who did my surgery was a fertility specialist. He said my daughter was "an act of divine intervention," because my reproductive organs were tied up in adhesions... But he did say I was a good candidate for IVF, but hubby and I never were into that. I tried after that, and never got pregnant again. He said I'd have trouble, and he was right. But all was ok with my daughter, had her by c-section.
We were one of the lucky ones and didn't have trouble conceiving (due in May!), but I can totally relate to having trouble with intercourse... A lot of the time it's just so uncomfortable, especially when things are more active/irritated. It sometimes feels like it I'm fighting to keep my bowels in control which is definitely a mood killer. We've had a little luck with trying other positions. My poor hubby; between surgeries and pregnancy and j-pouch stuff this year he's been pretty deprived.

BEST WISHES for your appointment with the fertility specialist - keep us updated!
Thanks girls.

Congrats on your pregnancy! You must be so excited Smiler do you know what you are having? I will do.
Yes positions is something we need to work on... I get really anxious because of previous pain and I dont think that helps so I need to get over that I think. But yes our poor hubbies haha. Im so lucky to have mine - he is just amazing! Smiler
If you have a chance to read through the posts over the years, you'll read that having trouble conceiving naturally is unfortunately rather common after these surgeries. We were one of the lucky couples that got pregnant right away with no issues. The discomfort you are describing is also pretty common across the boards. Not exactly sure what got moved where during these surgeries, but sounds like it's uncomfortable for many women. On a positive note, it got better for me after my son was born. Maybe there was some scar tissue that broke free during labor or something, but it's much better now. Best of luck at your appointments!
Hi,

I have had j-pouch for a year and did one round IVF-ICSI, because my partner has problems and I'm now happily 8 weeks pregnant. Our first child is also a IVF-baby. I can really recommend IVF. I was really scared I could never get pregnant after all those surgeries, but it was a wonderful suprise to get lucky on the first IVF-round! It is really worth all the trouble. Good luck and if you want more info, feel free to contact me.
My husband and I had problems with conceiving. I have a j-pouch and FAP. We went to a fertility doctor and did everything but IVF. He told me I killed my husbands sperm and that I could never get pregnant on our own. I also was not ovulating. He also told me since clomid did not work I could only get pregnant with fertility drugs. Nothing worked. After we spent $$$ we found out he lied to us. I kept doing research. Went to other doctors. I read about metformin, a diabetic drug, and one ob/gyn I went to let me get on it. I started ovulating immediately. Two years later I got pregnant on it. The fetus was not healthy. Another year went by. I read about baby asprian. I the first month I tried baby asprian and metformin together, I got pregnant and 9 months later I had a healthy baby girl.

I did the temp chart. It did not help me at all. I just went of the cervical mucus. Both times I conceived, I had the most cervical mucus ever! I did not think the ovulation kits worked either. It would tell me I was ovulating and did not ovulate. It took us 7 years but we have what we wanted!
I do think my colorectal surgery did cause some of my fertility problems.
