My son is 9 and has FAP. Had this surgery done june 27 12. I have a question.
He has developed a bad butt burn and rash due to
His loose stool constantly leaking and they have him on
Diapers since he pass first stool at hospital until he learns to
Control it again. He is on 4x a day imodium 2mg, questran light drinks
twice a day with meals. He has famotidine for heartburn but he rarely
needs this one. Also incorporated benefiber in water n meals. He is
using buttpaste for buttburn and cleaning with water afer each stool.
Seems like it was working for a few days and now it looks like white
in some areas. He has bad itch some days. I dont know what else to use.
Just wanted some input of other ppl who has this and also wanna know
when stool goesback to kinda normal that i can stop he diapers.

You should have the doctor check for a yeast infection. But that itch is - unfortunately - normal for some of us. The two products that work the best for me are Nupercainal (in the vicinity of the Preparation H products at the drug store). Nupercainal has a numbing effect and almost never hurts when it's applied. The other product is Ilex which is the king of skin protectants. Your son will need to apply a thin layer of Vaseline or similar product over the top of it (but I rarely do that anymore).

Also, rather than wiping (even if he's wiping with dampened toilet paper) try a sitz bath or install a hand-held shower attachment. Or invest in a bidet toilet seat which would be completely hands-free (well almost). It washes and dries the area. One of the sponsors of this site is COCO and they offer members here 15% off. I have a COCO bidet and it really helps.

Also, try other fiber supplements to see if one works better than Benefiber. Although I don't use them any longer, I had great success with Metamucil Wafers.

Welcome to the site! I hope your son starts seeing lots of improvement as soon as possible.

It's quite individual. Some of the younger people here wore diapers at night for a while. Or put a rubberized pad on the bed. It can take a good long while for things to settle down.

The good news is that with FAP, your son probably won't ever experience some of the things that those who had ulcerative colitis get to deal with.

Do a search here on FAP and you should get some great information. You might want to private message Chuckus (Charlie). He is rather the guru on FAP and the j-pouch. You could also private message Venessa. She's quite active on this site. She doesn't have a j-pouch (she has a continent ostomy - a BCIR) but she does have FAP and she might be able to offer support.

I'm sorry I don't have a more definitive timeline for you. Everyone is different and healing takes place at different rates. But if you think something might be wrong, by all means, contact your son's doctor.
