Hello all and - as always - thanks in advance to those responding to my questions.

I have been managing my J-pouch situation recently with fiber (Konsyl) and immodium. Taking about 6 per day (2 at a time), sometimes before meals, sometimes after post-meal BM. Does that sound like too much? Too little? I often feel not so much constipated as gassy or distended, but it seems to be working, at least somewhat. But I wonder if there are downsides that I am not aware of?

Hope everyone has an intestinally good year.

oh I like that an intestinally good year!

I don't know. I have heard a wide variety of immodium dosing that has been doctor approved. personally I use Lomotil which is basically Immodium's big brother, I am gun shy to bother with Immodium as that did absolute zero for me when I had active UC and a disease colon, it would probably be different now, but you know how memory goes. anywho I tend to shy away from using Lomotil unless I really need it, because for me it sometimes mimics too closely an obstruction which scares me to death, and also creates a bit of an uncomfortable stoppage in flow for me. and most importantly for me, I see virtually no change in the total number of bowel movements, it just seems to hit the pause button and I just play catch a few hours after the pause effect is run through.

technically immodium has dosing restrictions and warnings but that's is mostly for general population usage. I would just be sure your doctor is okay with what your taking and seek his or her official input. as we are all above average, rules for the general population don't apply to us. ;-)

I have started taking immodium 1.25 at night instead of my prescription dip---

pills.  Pill has a divide in it, but am taking the whole pill, think the 1.25 should be ok, it is over the counter.  Tried taking it before but as I had several ulcers in my pouch it was not effective.  Seems to be working fairly well now and I guess it is better on my system than the prescription dip--- which is really lomotil, I think.  Any thoughts?
