Has anyone ever been told by their dr and/or surgeon that part of the reason for reoccurring pouchitis could be due to having too much acid in their diet??
I’ve never been told that, nor have I ever heard it. In any case, is it possible that they were talking about *acidifying foods* rather than acid? I still don’t think it’s likely to cause pouchitis, but it’s a more popular dietary notion.
I think it's the ph of base is what burns I know it causes me serious butt burn
Hey Scott. Yes, the reference was referring to acidic foods. And suggested that I go towards a more alkaline diet. And it was an acquaintance that mentioned it to me, so I’m curious to know if anyone has ever been told that by their dr.
Acidic foods aren’t the same as acidifying foods. For example, citrus is an acidic food that is (according to this theory) alkalinizing rather than acidifying. Very, very few doctors subscribe to this theory.
I've tried it and it made butt burn unbearable. I am not sure if there is real science to support it or if it is a trendy type fad. I tried Alkalining my body and I could not tolerate the chronic butt burn.
Yes, I have been told that and it does effect your output with the burn. I stay away from acid foods as much as possible.
JPouch since 2010. I suffered pretty much since with butt burn and incintinence, finally couldn’t take it anymore so went to a doctor. He prescribed Questran. Totally night and day, it’s heloed with butt burn and incontinence. My doctor told me the the ileum is where the bile acids are absorbed and since that is where the pouch is connected does absorb enough for us and causes the butt burn. Questran binds to these acids and helps it!! If you search on this site for Questran you’ll find some good input. Hope this helps some. Believe me I suffered enough.
Yes I believe an alkaline diet helps. Never been told this but is has a more calming effect with K Pouch
