Hey gang!

Can you tell I like Star Wars from that title? I have a question for all you that, like myself, were lucky enough to have their rectums removed. It's been four months since my rectal removal and K pouch surgery. Previous to that, for years, I had j pouch pouchitis and butt burn that flared out of control, now, it's not a problem, it's all removed and I'm happily adapting to my new relatively pain free plumbing, but in the last few weeks I've been encountering a very weird sensation. In the same way amputees get phantom pains in limbs that are no longer there, I've been feeling phantom rectal pain, but it's been gone for months. It's a really weird sensation, but for a split second, it feels like it did before the surgery. My question is, has this ever happened to you? I know there's nothing I can do about it, and it's not really a big deal, I'm just curious if its just me (probably is, I'm pretty weird!), thanks,

Eric Eeker

Ps - also curious what other diseases have you obtained since your first GI treatments? For me, I'm confident the 85mg a day of prednisone I use to take caused the other issues, mine are arthritis (have had rotator cuff decompression surgeries on both shoulders because of it), osteoporosis, chronic anxiety and depression, hypertension, chronic migraines, kidney stones, had two unexplained grand mal seizures a year after my j pouch final take down (thankfully, none since), and joint pain so bad it hurts to walk some days (associated with the osteoporosis and arthritis, need right knee surgery, but I'm putting it off, I'm sick of surgery!).

Hi Eric,
I posted in the general section last week about the same subject...pressure and pain in the phantom rectum...like I had to go to the bathroom urgently, or like I had something very big in there (not pleasant at all) that needed to come out...yup, it is very strange but after 33 yrs I am sort of used to it...it comes in waves...I can go weeks or months without really, consciously feeling it and then Wham...I feel like I did 33+yrs ago. And for a moment I break out is cold sweats and panic until my brain reminds itself that that is physically impossible.
No explanation, no reason that I can pinpoint other than exercise...when skipping rope or doing any other high impact exercise I think that the zone gets stimulated (or my organs are just dropping!) or swollen and it just 'wakes up'...your brain will learn that it is no longer there and slowly the feeling will go away for longer periods until it becomes rare.

ps...since the total colectomy I have had 2 types of cancer (vaginal & 2 tumors where my rectum used to be), kidney stones, gallbladder removal, epilepsy, various reccurent articular problems, hernias, girly problems (hydrosalpinx)...and a whole bunch of 'normal' medical problems that the rest of the world gets too but I wish that I would be able to avoid. That's life! A lot of my medical problems are the result of meds that either my mom took or I took.
