Good luck with your takedown.  I think my last surgery was about 45 mins.  For me, it was the easiest.  Maybe because of no more stoma.  I also was 9 mos. from the beginning to last surgery.  2 year anniversary today!

So exciting for you! I felt a big relief at my final surgery as well. I can’t remember how long mine was but it was easier than the first, by far (not sure if you did 2 or 3 steps.

Thank you everyone for the support . Well the operation was a successful and my little pink guy is back inside where he belongs . It’s Saturday and I am Still in the hospital. The day after the operation I couldn’t keep any food or water down . So they took me off liquids and solids . Just started back up last night with water and today toast . I have passed a few liquidifed movements plus gas . Now they just want to wait another day or so before they release me. 

Feeling very bloated around the stoma area hoping that goes down with time . They asked if I wanted solid food and I declined . Who remembers when they had their first solid meal. 

I was in from Monday until Thursday.  I believe I had solid food by Weds.  I do remember also getting nauseous Weds. evening so they held off until the afternoon on Thursday before letting me go home.  On the way home, I think I got a burger!  Glad to hear it went well.  I walked a lot while I was in.  I think I wore a path around the halls!

Congrats! Today is my 5th week post reversal. When I asked the nurse that prepped me how long they expected the surgery to take, she was very precise. She said an hour 42 minutes. And my brother said that's about how long it actually took. Do you know how long your surgery took?

I'm curious, did they give you a "Tap Block"? I got that before my 1st surgery and again for the 2nd one. (I only had a 2 part surgery). I was surprised how much less pain I had coming out of surgery compared to my surgeries in the early 90's. 

I was in the hospital for 8 days for my last surgery. My intestines always are slow to start back up. The first surgery I was in for 18 days. Lol

I was not allowed solid foods for 2 weeks after this last one. That may have been due to the way my intestines react to surgery. I know that one of my roommates had his ostomy reversed during my first stay at the hospital. He had a cheeseburger on his third day after surgery and was released later that day. We had different doctors but he obviously responded quicker. 

I wish I could tell you what to expect. But what I experience d probably won't be the same as you. I do hope you let us know how you are progressing.

My  surgery was Wednesday and I was discharged Sunday.  Only to end up in ER Tuesday with server abdominal pain and a fever of 102, I had eaten very little before that and Tuesday was the first time I ate a whole meal.  I was thinking it was gas but once the fever hit I knew it was more then that.  They ordered an CT scan and it showed small pockets of air left over from surgery.  The surgeon is guessing one of them popped and was filled with pus which caused an infection.

They wanted to monitor me in the hospital for a few day and I was put back on a fluid only diet for 2 days .  Released today and eating  a few small meals a day the pain is still there yet nothing like before.  The wound had packing for the first 4 days which was changed once a day now just a dressing on top which I am to change once a day myself.  Any idea how long it takes to heal and when does the pain start to subside?  Is there any product to help minimize the scar and help with the healing?

I had some air pockets too and fever just after 1 day of my surgery when my pain meds were put off. It usually came in evening and then I was given a paracetamol for 3 days. 5-6 days after the surgery it got back to normal. I was asked to walk around alot for the first few days so that theres little build up of gas. Also consultant doctor asked me to only eat soft foods and juices. Once your pouch startsto release the gas the pain will wane off. I walk around a lot its painfull when you do it but every other day it keeps getting better and you'll feel more hungry and it helps passing the gas easily.

Oh that sounds painful! It’s always a little frustrating when you think you’re free (from the hospital) and you have to go back! Are you comfortable at home? I think mine took a few weeks to stop hurting, and that was only because when I bent over or it hit my pants, it was sensitive.

Although, I think you have an open wound, no? Some docs let them heal from the inside out. I had staples. I was paranoid it would get infected but it never did. Give it time. And keep walking around. Keep an eye on your liquids and if u have a fever get back into the ER. Good luck!! 

I started walking around the night of my surgery, my surgeon always made me do 5-10 laps around the hospital floor per day and of course my family was right on board with that I had very little rest. Still in pain and its been 12 days now its not the incision that hurts its a permanent cramp in my stomach and the butt burn is killing me.  Any good advise what to use down there for bum burn?

I used Calmoseptine religiously from the very beginning.  Make sure area is clean and dry before applying every time you have a bm.  At first, I didn't have a bidet, so I used a spray bottle and sitz bath.  I know people say not to use toilet paper but I have used soft toilet paper and that has worked for me.  At two years, I rarely have any issues with this at all.  It takes a while for things to get better.

Thank you everyone and  CTB23 that is comforting to know it all settles down, because right now I have no idea how many bathroom trips i make in a day I would guess around 15-20 or more .  I can handle going that may times I just cant take the stomach cramps and pressure in the butt.  Bubba1028 I am lucky I work from home so I am pretty comfortable for the most part and yes it was an open wound.

I'm on vacation now and find that because of food, walking a lot etc., I am needing to go more often and becoming uncomfortable at times, but the urgency isn't there the way it was before surgery.  I still get pressure when I need to go and  can't get to a bathroom right away.  Good that you're working from home! I am retired but I put my application in to substitute teach this school year.  Hoping my bathroom schedule doesn't interfere.  We'll see.  My last job was going into the homes of children, so I could always find a bathroom along the way as needed.
