Went to surgeon today for first postop after takedown

staples were removed and he was pleased with my progress and my 7 to 10 bms per day at this early stage.

about an hour ago I woke up soaked with brown  ooze from the surgical site.

call surgeon, he said it’s old blood hematoma that worked its way out after staple removal.

my first thought was oh my god my stoma reversal failed, sepsis, emergency surgery, blah blah blah etc etc etc mind racing to crazy conclusions.

any body else have this happen?

Not normal

had an major leak at takedown site and emergency surgery at 300 am Thursday

it’s Friday night, I am alive, off the ventilator and lucky to not have a permanent osteomy nor sepsis.

surgeon does not know what went wrong the first time

I literally had poop pouring out of me.

I am in icu with a 5 tubes draining all kinds of stuff,

I hope I live thru this.

OH HONEY!!!!!! I AM SORRY TO HEAR THAT!!!!!!!!!!!! MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU!!! ARE YOU OKAY NOW????!?!?!!!

What a scary turn of events! You will survive this. It may not sound like it, but you are lucky that this major leak found its way through your wound. Better than building up inside. You are in the right place and they are going to get you well. Sure, it is a huge setback. Stuff happens. One thing for sure, this did not happen because of something you did or didn’t do.

Take care and chin up. Things will get better!

Update 05/25

out of icu,in regular room.  Continue to receive iv antibiotics, fluids and food.
I am eating solid foods, in small amounts.

Will be here a few more days. Jpouch is working again and likes to be drained  often.

so here we go with jpouch startup 2.0.

surgeon assures me that fistula was removed and bowel resection resolved.

we shall see…….

Update 6/3

i am home from the hospital. 14 days of IV antibiotics to cure the sepsis. 7 more days of oral antibiotics at home. Thank you for all the well wishes.

i am grateful to be alive and in one piece. I did not receive a temporary osteomy after the perforation and really grateful for that as well.

Now I begin Takedown 2.0 and get used to the jpouch. I did pretty good in the hospital.

pouch likes to fake me out when I am on the toilet. As soon as I wipe more comes out. So for me, patience is required, and I just have to sit and relax till the pouch is fully empty.

So happy you are okay honey!!!!! I cannot wait for your new journey

So it’s Saturday night and my anus is on fire.

Apparently, they prescribed Augmentin as an oral antibiotic for my last 7 days of therapy. It’s has torn up my digestive track after 2 doses. Called surgeon and he advised me to discontinue antibiotics as 15 days of iv infusion antibiotics in hospital should have killed any infection from from the perforation.

ok peeps, how do get rid of this major butt/anal burning I am having as I await this horrible antibiotic to leave my body

thanks,

thanks,

Diaper rash cream- calmoseptine.

The hospital should have diaper rash cream, Convatec Skin barrier cream, they should have that, ask the ostomy nurse.
