During my surgeries I would watch youtubers documenting their journeys and I remember watching one guy after his jpouch surgery with a loop ileostomy and he had a rod protruding under his loop of intestine holding it above his skin for two weeks and putting a bag around that????.I was shocked and I asked my surgeon about it and he said no,no metal rods.so it shows advances are being made.

And the difference between stapling and stitching.

I had a temporary bridge for my loop ileostomy. It was annoying especially for changing the bag.  It was for a very short time.  I guess some surgeons use them to avoid retraction of the stoma, but there is debate as to whether it is really necessary, I guess.  I was really glad to see it gone.  My pouch was stapled.
