So, I have my procolectomy (I think that's the correct name) in one week. I guess I'm wondering what to expect when I wake up, during the hospital stay, at home, etc...  I've been in pain and misery for a long time and I'm happy this is happening, but I am also scared. I've read everything and anything I can over the last two months (since I can't do anything else), but I want to know more. I'm 24 and May 21st is my surgery.... May 22nd is my birthday. Happy birthday to me!

Try to get a pain pump.  Walk even if it a few steps as soon as you can...and it may suck a lot.  Kick people out so you can rest if you need to.  Two or three step? Hang around on this group if you need to, you will learn a lot and it is our one given commonality. It's ok to be scared....Walk through it and you will see light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck.

I was like you and ready for the operation. I went into the operating room with a big smile on my face.  When I woke up I was no longer smiling.  I don't know if you've ever had surgery before but I had.  I'd had a hysterectomy years before this surgery and the recovery was really fast......this is a lot more of a major surgery than that one.

thumprha is right when saying you should use the pain pump as often as you feel the pain starting back up.  It makes it easier for you to walk and they will get you up right way to walk.  The more you walk the better you will feel.  I'm assuming they are also going to build your j-pouch while in there and you will have a temporary ileostomy to deal with. I suggest that you practice all you can so you will have a better time once you are home nd on your own.  Don't be afraid to ask questions of anyone in the hospital or here.

I wish you the best and smiling is a good way to go into surgery.
