The long and short of it...I have a k pouch which means that I need to intubate my pouch with a catheter and use a 60cc syringe every time to irrigate. My right hand is essential for the process.

I was gardening today and pulling weeds. I pulled up the wrong one, barehanded.

Poison Oak.

My right hand is now swollen, painful, burning, prickly, useless...feels like I am holding a cactus in my fist.

I have put myself onto a liquid diet until this thing clears up...intubation is no longer an option for the next 24-48hrs.

Stupid...just plain stupid.

Hi Sharon,

Eek, hope you are doing some better? I too have the Kpouch and live in fear of the right hand injury 😳.

But must have to ask how you can avoid having to empty by just doing liquids ?  How do you manage gas and digestion secretions? I balloon you, so am very interested.

Again, Get Better ! Steroids are good for those poisons , work fast I find.
Thank you so much for all you always have to offer us out here, so appreciated.

Hi,

It’s me again, as I didn’t proofread, I meant to say that I balloon up , as meaning I bloat very large .

But, after posting I saw the next post on how you were absent awhile. As an occasional user, I was so saddened to see that this happened to you. The majority of people do not understand Kpouch or for that matter Jpouchs. We definitely stand a bit alone, Sharon, you are a  Great spokesperson for us

It seems the world has become a crueler place with the ability to be anonymous with ones speech and vileness. How sad for all of us. Now worse do to the world health crisis.

Please know your kindness shines through.  And sooo many out here are behind you and love to know we can depend on you.

You are so very sweet Janice,

I got past the bully, fortunately, it just took a while to grow my thin-skin back a bit thicker.

To answer your question, it is not that I did not have to intubate but that I have to intubate a lot less...Also, my output has gotten thicker over the years, as my small bowel has learned to do a bit of the job that my colon used to...So I tend to require irrigation almost every time...which means 1 handed usage of the syringe...something that was just plain impossible yesterday...fortunately things are better today...it took a lot of Benadryl and hand washing to get over the worst of it.

I seriously used to refer to myself as the Pom-Pom girl of K pouches...I would have loved to work as a spokesperson for them...I had tried, without a lot of success to get other countries to adopt or continue creating them but I am useless when It comes to administration (administrative phobia!)...So I never got things as far off of the ground as I would have wished to.

Stay healthy and well, be careful out there...this disease is not a joke...

Hugs
