Hi all,

It's been awhile since I've posted.  Most times I go about my very busy life with the pouch as the least of my many physical issues but sometimes it roars back with a vengeance just to remind me I have no colon I guess!  Some days, I never know when, stools become hard to pass, very thick. then all of a sudden boom! Acid water every time I dare to stand up.  My diet is pretty much impeccable, healthy, not a lot of meat, low carb etc.  Any ideas on why the fluctuations?  I do know that I have several strictures along the length of the intestine as well as a narrowing at the entrance of the pouch itself.  But it's just so weird that most of the time everythings fine.  Should I just deal and take immodium or lomotil?  How about canasa?  I used to take that, should I do it daily?

Hi Jan,

I have been scoped regularly with minimum inflammation found.  I've had pouchitis a few times with good response from flagyl.  My doc has not mentioned Crohn's but my sister has it so it's possible.  No blood though.  The bowel viewed with barium looks terrible.  I have several dilated loops with strictures occurring before each dilation.  Doc says this is what causes the occasional blockages I've had.  Since I saw the films I have watched my diet even more closely to avoid most nuts and seeds which get stuck there.  Why do you not recommend Canasa?  I have taken it in the past with good results.  Thanks for your thoughtful response.
