Sore sore arms from infiltrating IVs

Has a doctor looked at it? It seems that the pain should have gone away by now.

A while back I was having pain in my arm and contacted Jan. She mentioned a couple of things - one of them being celluitis. That's what it turned out to be and it can turn quite serious quite quickly. So a doctor look-see might be in order.

I had a problem with phlebitis in a vein in my arm after a lot of IVs and infiltration. I was not able to use that vein for IVs after that.

Hot, moist compresses 15 minutes, 4 times a day should help.

Or take the easy way out, and soak in the tub.

No just got back from the hospital a couple days ago. Been waiting to see if it would subside.

Jan- I'm going to start with that and see f that helps! They are pretty colors right now purple yellow and green :/

Ihh65- I hope that doesn't happen since one vein is my main "go to" when there is problems sticking me

I was in the hospital for 5 weeks at one point with an IV the entire time. My veins were sore and enlarged for a few weeks after I was finally discharged. However, the pain wasn't severe. I agree that if you are having severe pain you should definitely get it checked out just to be on the safe side.

I have a "go to" vein in my left arm, too. The last time I had a blood draw, the technician remarked that he could see "scar tissue" on the vein and said that I must have had a lot of IVs/blood draws (he has no idea). I wasn't too happy about that; some of my other veins have been a little trickier for IVs. I kind of need that one.

I infiltrated my own IV once right after surgery because my left hand felt "asleep" so in my post-recovery haze I kept squeezing it trying to "wake it up," until the IV totally infiltrated. I think the nurse was pretty peeved at me.

Anyway, I don't think it was particularly severe but it did hurt and I found massaging it helped a lot.
