thought i would pass this on..have had issues with itching ,from one end to the other actually ..it was really getting bad..i go to bathroom (B.M)maybe 6 to 8 times on average a day..I USED VARIOUS THINGS BUT WAS BEGINNING TO THINK MAYBE IT WAS A YEAsT PROBLEM..

however, upon researching i came upon some info online and to my great surprise it worked..

i went out and bought wipes with witch hazal and proceeded to use them everytime i had to use bathroom..carried them in my purse..used one to wipe and another to just put on the witch hazal where ever i had itching..it began helping immediately but after about a week it seemed completely gone..

discovering this was a god sent..who knew witch hazal wipes would resolve this problem

I've had my j pouch for a month. I was using the wipes from the beginning and it didn't help much but sooo much better than just toilet paper. I tried taking a bath with baking powder (an italian remedy my mother told me) and that killed the pain but it came back during the day and especially at night and I don't sleep at all because of it. It hurts so bad that sometimes I'm shaking because of the itching.

I'm going to see my surgeon today at mt. Sinai hospital, Toronto. Will report back with what he says and if it works. (figers crossed)

The one positive about having bad butt burn or itch is how good it feels when it stops, HAHA.

Americaine Hemorrhoidal Ointment (benzocaine 20%)is best when it's soooo bad. It literally numbs your butt nerves. You have to try and control the output too in those times. Try to take lomotil antidiarrheal, eat only yogurts or starches... things that thicken the stool. You have to let your pouch build up a thick base. No spicy stuff. Been through it many times.. can be nightmarish esp. w/ people around. Calmoseptine is good too but when it is soooo painfull only benzocaine will do. A shot of vodka or two helps as well. NO BEER!!!
this is only my second post but i read here more than i post. my surgery was in march '99. i have used athlete's foot fungus killer cream for years. dont remember who suggested way back when, but it sure works. now i don't hardly have to us it at all, but it sure was a life saver to me. i don't even knoe if it is a good idea for medical reasons or not, maybe somebody else will say not a good idea, all i can tell you is it has worked for me.
now i use "bag balm" it comes in a green tin that is avalaible at wal-mart i think, or else it is available for sure at any farm supply store.

so glad you not only found something but shared it. hope nobody does but if you end up with what looks like holes (burnt from a ciggarret and you find something that wks. PLEASE let me know. I think for this condition witchazel would burn. I was given lidocaine after someone suggested/ dr. gave me prescription. WOW! I couldn't get that stuff off fast enough. suppose to sting a little then be soothing. not the case.
The line about scooting like a dog made me laugh out loud. I know I itch when I haven't cleaned myself well. The toto bidet is my lifesaver. When traveling, I use a hand held toto product and Proshield Plus incontinence spray. I have to order both online. Between the two, I usually keep things pretty itch free.
