Hey everyone, I'm having some skin issues on my forehead, right eyebrow and behind my right ear. Basically the skin is reddish and just keeps shedding constantly. The only way that I can kind of control it is to scrape off the dead skin and apply paw paw ointment on it, but I have to do this 3x / day.

I'm worried it's related to Humira but not quiet sure?

I'm going to try get an appointment to see a dermatologist, see what they say.

I have been doing well with my pouch and joints on combo of Humira and MTX. If I have to stop Humira what are the preferred replacement options that would cover both gut (possible crohns) and joints (inflammatory arthritis)?

thanks

Both Humira and methotrexate can sometimes cause significant skin reactions. It might be worth calling your doctor to discuss what’s going on. My rheumatologist claimed that there isn’t much overlap between the biologics for IBD and those for inflammatory arthritis, but I’m not sure that he was correct. Good luck!

Yes- skin rash is among the possible side effects of Humira:

Your doctor might try tinkering with the dosage of methotrexate first. This is what we did when my liver chemistries started reading abnormal. We adjusted the MTX dosage at first, and then I was taken off it completely, and the liver chemistries went right back to normal. Now I take Remicade straight up and am none the worse for it.

If the methotrexate isn't the culprit, it's also possible you can tinker with the Humira dosage or go on another biologic altogether, but these are all issues and strategies to discuss with your doctor who is overseeing this treatment.
