My sister was just diagnosed with possible UC.  She has lost 20 pounds in two weeks and weighs 95 lbs.  She is at home.  The doctor doesn't want to admit her but she can't eat anything.  Given my history (UC and pouch) I don't understand what this doctor is doing.   He also put her on prednisone which gave me osteonecrosis (and surgeries on both hips and shoulders).  I would like her to go to Lahey Clinic but don't know if her insurance will cover it.  Her husband has worked for Sikorsky for about 40 years so she should have good insurance.  She's in Connecticut.  Is there anyone who is good at Yale these days?

Theresa,

We just lost Dr. Oikonnomou at Yale Digestive Diseases, who was great, but a very good GI specializing in IBD is Dr. Myron Brand who works out of the same building that Dr. O was in.  I have a scope scheduled with him June 29.  I only met him once but very experienced with J Pouches and of course most of his patients have UC/Crohns.

He is the chief of the Yale Shoreline Clinic in Guilford as well, and that's where he does all his scopes, but he has an office in New Haven as well, 40 Temple Street which is the Temple Medical Center.

This post made me remember when I was so sick and was barely able to get up. We had a kind, motherly male Rottweiler who refused to leave my side. I was the only one who could take him out to go potty. It was so hard to go out; i just wanted to curl up on the lawn and sleep, but I managed the bathroom trips. I still believe that dog prevented blood clots.

Hope your sister gets relief soon.

It looks like things are a little better for my sister.  She's eating some and moving some.  She's been waiting for her insurance to approve  a prescription for Remicade.  I have been trying to convince her to try VSL#3DS since she is now diagnosed with UC.    I've also been trying to get her to have someone (a surgeon and hospital) in case she doesn't get better.  I went through so much I don't want the same to happen to her.
