There are some old posts on Rifaximin/Xifaxan, but I don't see anything new. Does anyone use this for pouchitis? I'm wondering if anyone knows of it being used for a bout of pouchitis (not chronic), and at what dose and for how long. I'm seeing 550mg twice a day, but no length given. Can you just use Rifaxamin/Xifaxan, or does it need to be mixed with Cipro? My issue is that I hate Flagyl, and would like to replace it for future bouts. I also think that I end up with SIBO type symptoms, and would think Xifaxan would help. Thanks for the advice.
I tried it alone for chronic pouchitis, but it didn’t work for me. Others have had better luck. I guess it might work with Cipro, but I don’t hate Flagyl as much as you seem to, so that’s what I use.
I rotate Cipro, Amoxicillin Clauvinate and Xifaxin, using each for two weeks. Before this, I was on Cipro only for 14 years. The rotation has been awesome for me. It sounds like your pouchitis isn't chronic. Mine is. I personally think Xifaxin is awesome.
