Ouch! I know what you mean. I have some external hemorrhoids, too, that act up every once in a while. They are small, but the pain, as you say, is mighty! What helps me the most is to use witch hazel infused flat cotton pads after I have wiped and after each BM.  Then I use calmoseptine. You can buy Preparation H pads and, when you have finished using them,  just make your own pads using that container: buy a bottle of witch hazel and a pack of make-up cotton pads (the rectangle shaped ones). Put a stack in the container and pour some of the witch hazel over it to soak them. If the pain gets really bad, you can press one against your anus and just leave it there while you lie down and read a book or the newspaper! Good luck.  Hemorrhoids, like paper cuts, inflict pain way above their physical appearance! Oh, and my surgeon said to avoid using steroid cream on hemorrhoids--it just weakens their skin and can cause bleeding.

Thanks! Yes, witch hazel and calmoseptine are a must! I have dealt with these before so I am managing, but owwwww. LOL

Good tip about the steroid cream. It does provide temporary, almost instant relief, but over time it's not the best option.

I also haven't had much luck with over the counter hemorrhoid creams. They seem to exacerbate the problem as well. I guess we pouchers are just special that way.
