If I am interpreting this question incorrectly please forgive me, I think I had a resection when my first takedown missed an enterocutaneous fistula. 10 days later it leaked and I had emergency surgery. As I was being wheeled in, my surgeon warned me that it could be open (it wasn’t), and that I could wake up to a permanent end oestomy. Even though I was septic, he took a chance with the resection and I woke up two days later (was on a ventilator) with a redone anastomoses.  

That was 22 months ago. I was in the hospital for 3 weeks, so it was kind of awful given the circumstances.

I think if you are in good hands you should come thru this fine.
