I have had a j pouch for the last 11 years, following diagnosis of severe uc at the time of my first pregnancy. Overall having the pouch has been good. I eat what I like after keeping a food diary at the beginning for a year and learning from mistakes. I go to the bathroom between 3 and 6 times a day with relative ease, sleep through the night and have never had any accidents. I have always had a problem with trapped wind in which the only release for me is to lay on the floor. A Registrar once told me that people with j pouches lose the ability to pass wind naturally.
Anyway my problem is that back in September I got an obstruction caused by a rogue mushroom and although that obstruction has since cleared, I have been left with internal swelling that is causing difficulty in every bowel movement. I am having to rotate my hips, move up and down and lay on the floor to manipulate toilet past the swelling. I have been to my local Doctor who has prescribed prednisolone (steriod) Suppositories to reduce swelling. This is not the first time that I have incurred a swelling following an obstruction, and I have old swellings along with this new one that is restricting flow from my rectum. My concern is do I need long term hemorrhoid treatment/surgery? If surgery is recommended will they come back or will there be issues with scar tissue, or worse case will I have to go back to a bag?
