aside from my diet which i am following and trying this that and everything to work on additional issues and still off antibiotic i have now added imodium to my regular daily routine..never really clicked that it might help my ongoing issues and output..well light bulb went off after some hints from site and have now been on imodium for 4 days now..trying to figure out my dosage for now have settled on 2 2mg. in morning and two 2mg at night..and low an behold i am so far seeing a significant difference..but still too early to tell i think..but encouraged..output amount and consistency overall seem better..infact today loosened up on cutting amount of fruit and almond product..will see if it all holds!!!but there maybe something to regular doses of imodium or generic..will update...

I am so jealous! tried Imodium and I pill and started blocking up. On occasion I can do 1/2 but not every day. I am having problems too on this low carb diet. When I eat bulk like lentils for resistant starch my stools r better. Can't take Metamucil either I'm thinking of adding back some higher fiber foods to this diet like oatmeal or wheat bread? I'm also loosing too much weight.
allykat i am not familiar with resistance starches..seems contrary to avoiding feeding bacteria but i guess its another approach?where did you find this?never head of it..

hmm wonder why imodium blocks you up..it is used in jpouch for slowing up bowels..

maybe something going on besides bacteria overgrowth..so sorry its not working..i know you said you eliminated all of them right?and sugar?

as far as weight goes i have added back into diet more fat as you eliminate carbs you need to replace with more fat i think..i no longer use fat free yoghurt i make mine with whole milk and i even have added for me a treat bacon with my eggs(haven`t had that in 20 years!!!)i use olive oil more freely, avocados and even eat chicken with skin more often and so on..

what exactly are you issues with stool? mine were too often and more explosive gas,and irritation, itching from going so much especially in evening on to early morning..the imodium for me seems to cut down how often i go and i guess consistency ...have you tried pep to gismo instead of imodium..it has added benefit of antibiotic effect? i think you can take up to 8 of them a day..maybe that won`t block you..what exactly do you mean by block you?

i wish you wold consider trip to cleveland clinic to see bo shen...
I have adhesions. I have to be real careful.

As for the diet I do not eat low fat. Whole milk everything! avocados for fat, butter! Yum, constantly putting food in me. I think adding in some rice might have stabilized me, not sure, afraid to go on the scale.

My stool become water. Sometimes it's normal pudding like! but then just water. I've tried pepto bismol, it's ok but also can't take too much. Trying gummy fiber now. Metamucil goes right thru me. My problem also starts late afternoon thru the night. Sometimes I leak. That usually means pouchitis but I'm actually feeling ok and the rest of the day is fine.

I found out about resistant starch from the Fecal Transplant group and from Healing Well UC forum.
I have been following a low carb, high fat diet since February. It has worked absolute wonders on my blood sugar control (Type 1 diabetic) and helped me get off antibiotics for pouchitis. This diet can be found on ruled.me. Or Dr. Bernstein's "Diabetes Solution". It is often called the Keto or Ketogenic diet. Varies a bit for people but basically no grains, starchy veges, or fruits. 75% fat, 20% protein, 5% carbs. SCD allows some fruit and honey. Keto does not. Keto allows whole fat dairy cheeses, sour cream and heavy whipping cream.
daffodilly you are another confirmation on improvement with diet and in your case pouchitis..

wow listen up jpouchers with pouchitis we really may have found an answer to control overgrowth without seriously bad drugs!!!maybe seems impossible but just imagine pouchitis or overgrowth by changing diet..i am on scd because trying to hold on to my fruits if i can ..keto eliminates them..interesting the different thoughts on that one aspect..but one can tweak that if one manages low cargo,no starch and simple sugars..

hope we can get others onboard to give this arty..
