Hello, Recovr83.

As Scott suggested, a bidet is better than toilet paper. There are several types of bidet you can buy. After my reversal I used a travel bidet -- a plastic bottle style with a special nozzle that I bought from Amazon for around $12. It's available in healthcare equipment shops too. I put in my purse (bottle empty) for work and when away from the house. It saved me from the fire bum those first few months, which was agony.

It worked so well I bought an attachment for my toilet. I bought the attachment that gives HOT and cold water for a better clean, and the warm water helped clean and heal any fissures or rash. It cost around $75 -$80, I can't remember exactly. It is worth every penny because you'll use it after every BM and it will save your skin from the itch, rash, pain, fire burn, etc., forevermore!  If you move you can disassemble it from the toilet and take it with you; it is not a permanent attachment.  If you are handy with plumbing lines and a simple wrench, you can attach it yourself. They are made to be easily attached to your bathroom's water lines, even by non professionals. There are also YouTube instructions so you can watch before you try to attach it. Or invest a few more dollars if possible and hire a handyman / plumber to attach it for you. It takes around 30 minutes labour and will save you agony and fire bum.  Just open the box and lay out everything, to save plumber's time. Try not to use toilet paper when you are burning. Dry toilet paper makes everything worse when you are burning. Even if you use only dampened toilet paper you have to keep that area clean (and thoroughly pat dry) and apply your barrier cream. Good luck. I remember how it was, and am thankful for the bidet because I never experience it now.

I have a j-pouch but don't use it.  I have a loop ileostomy and it's been awhile since I used the butt cream when I first had the j-pouch.  I used Calmoseptine and it worked very well for me.  After awhile the anus skin seemed to toughen up and I didn't get the butt burn anymore.

The j-pouch didn't work for me because of other reasons so I went back to the ileostomy.

When I had really bad butt burn, I used a bidet and sits bath. It did calm down.  I have only used Calmoseptine and it worked for me.  You have to find what's best for you.  The good thing, at least for me, is that eventually no butt burn at all after a while.  I still keep Calmoseptine available but haven't used it or the bidet in months.  I am 16 months out from takedown.
