This differs depending on your doctor, and what they are looking for. I had a scope just this week. The only prep I was told to do was clear fluids from noon the day before (scope was at 10:30 am). No other prep; i.e. no enemas, miralax etc. I didn't have to do that before my other scopes with the pouch, either. But you should call the office and find out if they want you to do something specific for yours. In most cases, though, you'll usually be advised to avoid anything coloured red or purple the day before (i.e. jello, gatorade, etc).
My surgeon never has me prep other than no food either the day or night before (cannot exactly exact period of time here-sorry)...just liquids. My GI tried to have me drink the prep and take two fleet enemas the morning of the scope but after my surgeon refuted this, I was able to pass on the oral prep and only did one fleet enema versus two. I know different surgeons/GI doctors have different protocols.
LoriB, I am very surprised that you were told to do that prep. Was it your actual GI or someone in your GI's office? Once my GI's MA gave me the directions for colonoscopy prep for my pouch scope. I questioned her and she insisted that those were doctor's orders. I ended up with such horrible diarrhea and dehydration that I had to go in early for i.v. hydration. My GI was furious, her MA tried to say I just hadn't listened to her, then I pulled out the written directions she gave me and it was clear what had happened.

It's probably an easy mistake to make when someone is used to giving standard colonoscopy prep instructions to people all day long. Nonetheless, it was another reminder that we need to be absolutely vigilant about managing our healthcare.

I encourage you to double check that you have the proper prep instructions. If you do, please be sure to hydrate leading up to ad during the prep.

My standard prep now is just two enemas starting about 90 minutes before the procedure.

Good luck!

Older thread but after having a lot of providers that don't know what a "BCIR" is let alone how it does change the way certain things are done.  I am hoping someone with a BCIR or Koch pouch might see this and share the typical prep before a scope of the pouch.  They even try to sedate me so you can imagine.  Thanks up front.  Oh, and what is the reason we don't drink the laxatives? Its dehydration and fluid loss right? I've had this for so long i am refreshing my protocol so it does not get lost in the shuffle.

The only preparation for a scope exam is ti stare clear liquids at noon on the day before and flush the pouch before leaving home and then just before the exam until the output runs clear.  No laxative is needed since the small intestine will empty itself completely during this time.  No sedation is needed since the exam is painless.  I always look at the same monitor that my doctor does and ask any questions I might have,  I also ask to get copies of the pictures taken during the exam.
