Pregnant with k-pouch or BCIR

I can not speak to being pregnant with a k pouch because I was never lucky enough to carry to term but I can give you some possible insight into the leakage problem and the why of it...
You are at 5 months and your baby with the uterus and the amniotic fluid is probably either pushing under and up on your pouch or back and down on it...either way it is probably changing the trajectory or your valve or pulling on it and popping it open...I doubt that it is causing a permanent problem but a temporary annoyance that should resolve itself once the baby is born...I would change the type of protection that you use for now...I started using 1/2 an extra-large minipad stuck to my unddies and the other half just pushed against the stoma..once it gets soaked I change it and put another one on it...it if it really bad then I used a full pad...
For now, as long as there is no pain or severe discomfort then I wouldn't worry about the problem but just hang in there until the birth.

Many thanks for you reply. I am very sorry to hear that you could not carry to term.
I had some problems to day, the nipple valve came out. I managed to put it in again, but I am worried that it will now change position inside and maybe go back so that I get problems in inserting the katheter.

I am thinking of getting a permanent katheter to put inside and put stopper in it the rest of pregnancy.

What thought do you have. I have contacted the hospital. Hopefully I will get some answers on Monday.

Gitika,
What you are describing is called a prolapsed valve and it means that your valve is no longer anchored inside of your pouch or that your collar (the part inside of your pouch that holds the valve in) has loosened and it is allowing your valve to prolapse...The 3rd possibility is that you have a peri-stomal hernia (a small hernia close to the muscle that holds the stoma and valve tight...
In any case you should be able to put a Marlene or Medena catheter into your valve, tape it in and attach a leg-bag or other bigger bag to the end of it and keep your pouch onto a direct drain for the duration of your pregnancy.
The hospital where you had your k pouch surgery should be able to supply you with everything that you need to make it as comfortable as possible...but you Must contact your surgeon to let him know what is happening...it will need to be fixed once the baby is born...if it is just a hernia then it is a very small surgery with only a night in the hospital...

Hi....there is a KPer who had children during her pregnancy and needed to keep the constant cath inserted.

Since I had my KP at 19, the surgeon said if I were to get pregnant, I'd have set up the constant cath as the uterus pushes the positioning of the pouch temporarily.

It shouldn't be a problem after the baby is born.

Hi, yes; I am the one: I carried 3 pregnancies and had 3 healthy babies after the K pouch. However, I had to keep the catheter inserted and taped in place after the first few months of each pregnancy. Although that was uncomfortable (I worked as an attorney during all those pregnancies and had that catheter sticking out under my clothing and tried my best to mask it with my clothing but was very self-conscious about it), it wasn't a problem. My understanding from my K-pouch surgeon had been that generally there was not even that kind of situation and that most K-pouchers carried their preganancies to term without even having to have the catheter taped in. I had the first 2 babies via vaginal birth and the last one via C-section, and right after the birth took the catheter out and all was back to normal.
