I was desperately suffering from chronic pouchitis [after my J-pouch surgery way back in 2005 for UC]. I have now gone from being on Cipro every day to not needing it that often. Now, I don't get pouchitis or need Cipro for weeks at a timeHere's what I did: I went gluten-free a few years ago. I stopped eating oranges and tomatoes (and I loved them), and of course greatly reduced my sugar and grease intake. I also take a probiotic every day (RAW brand from health food stores is chaper than VSL3 and works well for me), and I take sips of Kombucha (KeVita brand from the health food store, which tastes like sparkling juice) throughout the day. One more thing, I take slippery elm lozenges to coat the lining of my pouch - to protect it. If I'm not careful, and eat too much sugar/grease, etc., I will get pouchitis. I am so grateful to the people who gave me this advice. I really hope this helps you.
