hello again all,

I would like to again thank everyone that has helped me through my j pouch transition on this site. I had my j pouch take down in June. First few weeks were rough with cramping and bleeding and butt burn. Since then the cramps continued, they were the painful way of reminding me when I needed to use the bathroom. Bleeding has also continued, not huge amounts like before when I had UC, but enough where I can see it and it's concerning. Sometimes more sometimes less.

My surgeon tried Canasa suppositories to kick possible cuffitis, they did nothing. About two weeks ago my surgeon scoped me in her office and I was diagnosed with pouchitis. I could see the screen which was a weird experience, she even showed me the side that was inflamed, compared to a area that was normal. I was put on cypro twice a day for two weeks. Cypro has shown no signs of changing the amount of bleeding, but my cramps have completely gone away. I'm not experiencing any other standard pouchitis symptoms..while on cypro I have fully stopped taking Imodium and only use the bathroom about four times a day..

im getting more and more nervous... I feel so good now. For the first time in a long time I feel healthy and I'm scared that the bleeding is going to mean more surgeries. It feels so odd to be so concerned when I really do feel okay..

Have any of you experienced anything similar?

How long do you think they will let me keep bleeding before they recommend taking my pouch away..?

I thought maybe it could be a staple coming loose but I've been examined three different times.. I'm sure they would have noticed that..

If you're bleeding without other symptoms that could possibly be just fine for a  long time, particularly if the bleeding is minor. It sounds like you may have had both cuffitis and pouchitis, and the Cipro handled the pouchitis. If you want to try other things that might help the bleeding, Short Chain Fatty Acid enemas are a possibility, as is Cortifoam or Cortenema.

Thanks so much for your reply. I'm hoping it's okay for a while. I think what freaks me out the most is when I had the UC I was told over and over it was a mild case and no problem, far from needing surgery, and then I got c diff and within a few weeks had my colon taken out. I'm feeling great again and the possibility of a new big problem is terrifying!!

I have read some good things about cortifoam, is it something my GI would need to prescribe?

Yes, Cortifoam is by prescription, and could cause some steroid side effects. To be honest, if my only symptom were mild bleeding I'd probably choose regular monitoring over Cortifoam. I'd at least discuss the trade-offs with my doctor. What nailed you in the earlier case was contracting C. diff; without that the reassurance would likely have proven correct.
