Hello all. Background to my question: I'm 2.5 years post op. I am experiencing my first bout of pouchitis. I wasn't sure what it was at first (I thought maybe I was just eating the wrong things there for a while) but when I started to get cramping and a sense of not being able to empty, along with pain/pressure in the anal and pouch region when trying to empty the pouch I figured it out and saw my surgeon. I'm on antibiotics now.

My question is, has anyone had vaginal pain during sex because of pouchitis? I began experiencing slight discomfort when the symptoms of pouchitis picked up about a week ago but yesterday, the worst day of symptoms yet, when trying to have sex it hurt so badly that we had to stop. It was very sharp and towards my right side internally. I can still feel some pain in that region now as I sit here. My thought is its probably inflammation from the pouch kind of "crossing over" the vagina (my whole abdomen has gotten a little sensitive in the last 3 days) I will probably wait until the antibiotics are done to officially be worried about it. I was just curious if anyone else had experienced something similar and if the problem resolved when the pouchitis resolved.

This makes sense to me. The pouch is right 'behind' the vagina in your pelvis, so if the pouch is inflamed it could be irritated by jostling from intercourse. I personally haven't experienced this (or pouchitis) but when I still had my rectum I had pain from intercourse when the rectum was inflamed. Same place, different organ Smiler
Yes, I too will absolutely feel pain/discomfort in my vagina whenever my pouch is inflammed or otherwise mis-behaving. Likewise, my pouch never seems happy when I am ovulating or have period cramps. The pouch and vagina (at least in my case) are so close together that I feel as if they are now one organ. It is often hard to know where the pain is coming from.

Hot baths always help.
