I've been using Lomotil daily for about 11 years - generally just one tablet at bedtime. I *think* it helps or I would have stopped a long time ago, but it's hard to be certain. I have tried Imodium but it didn't seem to do much for me. Others swear by it.

When my pouchitis is in good control I sleep through the night. For the past eight weeks or so I'm up once or twice, unfortunately, as I try to find an alternative that works as well as Cipro used to. The good news is that I can get back to sleep fairly easily.

I have had a J-pouch since November, 2006.  In addition to my colon, I lost about 12-14 inches of my small intestine.  My doctor lets me adjust my lomotil as necessary, according to my BMs.  I currently take two in the morning and two at bedtime, and average about 8-9 BMs per day, one at night.  This seems to be about the best I can do, although if I watched my diet I could probably do a little better.  Without lonotil, I would STAY in the bathroom!

Lomotil seems to do nothing for  me other than dry out my nassl passages. I'm going to try to increase the dose to four per  day to see if it helps but I also have chronic pouchitis so I prefer contents  still not sit inside pouch for too  long.  Maybe since I'm not consistent with it I don't get the same results others may? 

Does anyone get severe headaches from lomotil?  My stomach was killing me from Cipro so I stopped on my own. I am now taking 8 turmeric capsules a day and 4 packets of vsl3 ds. This is the first time in weeks, my stomach has not ached 24/7 and I have not been in the bathroom every hour with God awful cramps and pain and horrible sounding stomach noises.

I have also started a gluten free diet and I am watching alcohol intake and carbs and sugars.
