I got my J-Pouch as a teen in 1993 and takedown 4 months later. I've only had pouchitis once in 2008 and have led a miraculously normal life. Because of this I got a little cocky and stopped getting my regular biopsy/pouchoscopy so after 8 years, when I finally got one, they found a polyp too big to easily remove. They've tried with 3 pouchoscopies since to cut away at it, and have successfully cut away at 2/3 of it. But now they suggest one more time to prevent a full surgery and temporary bag. I worry about getting these constant scopes and my employer is getting impatient with my constant time off work.

Meanwhile, It's hard to sleep because the blockage stops digestion once I  lie down, and I'm getting severe pains and sour stomach with the slightest amount of stress. Has anyone else had an issue with a polyp? Any suggestions on what to do?

dumb me did the same thing and had the same procedures done. I would do anything not to have an ostomy.I have heartburn all the time and so do my three children [ they all have a j pouch one son has an ostomy ] I think it is just part of this mess.they had to pull skin from the outside of my rectum to cover where they cut away at the polop. I really don't have to many problems thanking GOD for all he has done for me. I go every three months,I also am trying to get disabilaty and the lawyer said I have a good chance .I had alot of issues with my job they couldn't understand why I needed to go to the restroom so much.Try lifting your bed up at the head of your bed,put something under the legs of your bed.My surgeon is amazing.

Hey Infiniti512

Sorry about the sour stomach and stress. I was in a similar boat not too long ago. I was so nervous with any procedure 'down there' that it prevented me from so much in life. Once it was done it was a game changer for me.

What specifically are you nervous about? I was nervous about things becoming worse. I forgot who it was, but they asked me worse than what? I was already uncomfortable, pouchitis was bad, and I was using the bathroom all the time with only a portion of the waste being eliminated. Literally when I woke after the procedure i felt better (sore but better).

I'm assuming my polyp was the size of what you have remaining so my experience may not apply. I will say however that since I've been much more proactive in trying to feel better I have.

Good luck with it and let us know what you decide to do and how it goes!

Thanks. I have been trying to sleep sitting up for months but it's just not a restful sleep. I saw my surgeon yesterday and he related the pain to stress so I'm going to try and manage it better. Good luck to you! They purposely make it difficult, and make you jump through hoops, and I think it's to discourage you.

I am just nervous every time they have to go in. Scared of mistakes but I seem to have gotten a good surgeon. Taking time off work is always stress as well. I'm going to schedule it soon and get it overwith. It had been growing at least three years. I know I felt something but thought it was just scar tissue.

Thanks for responding and good luck with you too!
