thanks for the reply - have also been taking 81mg aspirin daily since surgery (12 weeks ago) - surgeon says say on aspirin and that should be sufficient - I just stopped plavix today - in last 2 days, 2 of about 8 -9 BMs had what I pretty sure is lots of blood (water in toilet is all red - other BMs showed none (I don't think)

Your welcome

Its not recommended for us to take NSAIDS medicines, that can irritate the pouch and cause pouchitis.  I think you should tell your surgeon that and see what he says. A lot of people on here have suffered consequences of taking NSAIDS.

thanks - I was not aware of that - I am going to see my gastro soon so he can advise me - must be blood thinners out there that do not irritate the pouch - will say my open heart surgery recovery is going well (it was 12 weeks ago) - 69 years young and for the past 9 weeks walking twice a day (never miss; have a treadmill if temperature is below 10 and windy) and now up to 35 miles a week and no fatigue at all

I guess w/ my situation my gastro guy may not know enough about blood thinners and coronary arteries and my cardiologist may not know enough about a j-pouch but I would think there are those w/ a J-pouch that have had open heart surgery

Your welcome! I would suggest Edoxaban, it can run expensive depending on what insurance you have, it might be cheaper with mail order but I would just do a comparison and see what happens.

Until you see your gastro, I would suggest to keep taking the Asprin, I would hate for you to get a blood clot. Keep taking the Asprin until you see him, just take it with a meal or snack, do not take it on a empty stomach, take it with a meal or a snack. That should help until you see your gastro.

I take NSAIDS for pain but I would not recommend that to others. I have to find some other solution too, I just have not found one yet. I had a small ulcer in my pouch and it most likely came from the NSAIDS. I have to find something else too.

Keep me updated
