Hello gals,

Does anyone else’s pouch go crazy a few days before supposedly getting their period? I’m talking a bit gassy, increased frequency, watery stools, the whole 9 yards. Anyone else? I know most women do through it but I feel like for us with pouches it’s worse? Can’t ever tell if it’s stress, my period or what I’m eating.

Generally when menses is about to begin there is an increase in prostaglandins in the blood stream.  This causes increased peristalsis (therefore diarrhea) and uterine cramping.  Medications designed to decrease prostaglandins will decrease the diarrhea associated with monthly bleeding.  Naproxen is a good one but does not agree with many folks for the GI side effects as it is a potent NSAID.
