Hello old friends, its been a while! I am currently working on graduating with a degree in wildlife biology and will be posting a longer update on my life of late in the general forum, but for now here is my predicament. For the last couple days I've been having a nuisance pain in my perinea and at first thought that it was just maybe chaffing from a stressful day at work. It didn't improve and remained rather constant so after poking and prodding myself I found a small lump about the size of my pinkie that seemed to be the source of my discomfort. At this point I started to think a hernia or an abscess, maybe the eventual manifestation of my chronic pain issues improved but never went away.
So being without insurance, I went to the campus health center just so someone could get eyes on it and bounce ideas around. It was her opinion that it was not an abscess or a hernia and she admitted to not being sure what it was. They are currently referring me to a general doctor in town that operates on a sliding scale.
Now, I need ideas on what to do given my lack of insurance. I know that the general practitioner will give me little in the way of solutions other than maybe a script or two, and my other option is to go see the only GI in town at a cost of $300 up front. Considering that my perinea is no longer a gastrointestinal tract is there much chance that he could do any better. Should I seek consultation with a general surgeon? Unfortunately a the nearest colorectal surgeon is a 7 hour drive away on rural, icy roads.
Any Ideas? Recommendations?
