It’s been along time since I’ve been here maybe 15 years. Having pain on my right side just below ribs and above stoma, also a lot of gurgling, keeps me awake at night. Emptying pouch doesn’t help. Seems like my breathing has gotten shallow. My output used to be kinda thick and tan in color, now it’s really thin and almost black. Antibiotics don’t seem to do any good. Doctors where I live aren’t worth a damn. Thinking about flying to see Dr. Schiller. Anyone else deal with this?

Welcome back, we are always here. Sorry about your pain. Has anybody suggested a MRI of your G.I. and other surrounding organs? If your surgeon is still around you might try calling him/her and they could direct your local doctors for various tests. My doctor always asked for a diet diary of at least a week, along with output consistency and frequency. I really don’t have any suggestions that are based on evidence/experience. Try searching this site for similar symptoms. Report back please so others with the situation can think it through with their doctors. Good luck

Hi Amos, Can you be a little more specific? How long has this been going on and what type of pain?  Also , where are you located? One of us could help you out with a name , I’m in Ohio and Florida. Ohio still has Dr David Dietz in Cleveland. I have no one down here for Kpouch though. Difficult to find Drs that understand us.

Right side can be slight blockage causing thinner stool, is it dark or black ? Black could mean blood in it. Other organs on right side can cause issues so Jan15 is correct an MRI or CT would help diagnose.Good luck to you and maybe if it continues some of us have ideas that can help you. So sorry you are having difficulty

.

Adam – thanks for asking. I’m doing quite well considering the virus, isolation, lack of schedule, and general craziness in our fractured society.

I agree with the other Jan that it would be good to have more details, such as did it suddenly happen, was it tied to any event or food, were other things happening to you medically?  sorry but can’t think of other questions to ask. I know it’s difficult to remember.    if you think blood is in the stool you can have that easily tested at your PCP.    that might be a good starting point.  and yes my thinking behind a scan was that another organ might be related to the pain.  There’s not a lot of space in the abdominal region so if, as a personal example, one breaks ribs the internal blood puts excruciating pressure on other organs, so much so that the rib pain is second thought.  Inflammation  of an organ could have same effect.

Hi Amos, Hi guys,

When I think about the upper abdomen I think of either gallbladder or liver. I also think of gastritis.

Does the pain change according to what you eat? Do fats and fatty foods make it worse or not? (sign of an unhappy gallbladder)

Is it worse or better if you do not eat? (fasting gas, burning and nausea could be a sign of gastritis)

Are you burping more than before? (dyspepsia?)

Do you have heartburn? (Gastric reflux?)

Does the pain radiate to your back (middle back to upper shoulder)? Gallbladder again...

There are a lot of possibilities but you need to give us some more info to try to help you to narrow things down a bit.

Also, has anything changed in your life or lifestyle (other than Covid)? Do you eat different foods? Have you started or stopped something in your life like certain meds? Sports?

And yes, any pain that persists should be looked into...no ignored

I hope that the confinement, reconfinement, deconfinement and re-re-confinement is not too hard on you all and that you are all staying safe and healthy.

Sharon

Thanks for all replies. I went on lyquId diet for a week. Seems like bleeding has stopped and pain is gone and all the loud gurgling has stopped. Started eating again and gurgling is back and I still seem to have to with my fists push in just below ribs and rotate downward to get pouch to empty and to get rid of gas.

Your welcome, hope things get better. I would see a gastro at this point.
