Wow! I’m not sure how to respond to that rant, so I won’t! We are responsible adults just trying to deal with the many challenges we face. No need to judge others! We all have something we’re dealing with, not just j-pouch issues. FYI for anyone following this thread who wants to learn more about CBD and the reputable research being done, check out www.projectcbd.org

Strange,

You've provided your opinion and it is clear that you are against cannabis. So don't use it. People are not suggesting people smoke it before driving their children to school here. They are discussing using it to help with medical problems.  I have a friend that can't take pain medications but her system allows for her to eat edibles and it is legal in her state.  Her doctor prescribes it and I'm not talking about a doctor that has set up an office next to a dispensary.

Lew,

It can be infused into an oil like coconut oil or butter and that oil is used to make canna pills by pouring the infused coconut oil into capsules or to make brownies - or anything you want that uses butter.  People make their own gummie bears and so on.  People infuse it with an oil so it is better absorbed into their systems.  There are many recipes for preparing the oils on-line. It takes a while to get into your system vs smoking it which gets in there almost instantly.  Ingested oil stays in one's system longer than smoking it. With some experimentation the dose can be determined on an individual basis.

Please note that medical marijuana DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY NICOTINE (as someone mentioned in an earlier post)!!

Please refer to www.leafly.com to see how different strains affect you different.  Some give you energy and focus (day time use) while others put you to sleep etc.

You can also take a swab DNA test to see which strains work with your body.

Also the smell from vaping is not pungent.  Most have a natural flavoring to them, which make them smell fruity etc. Not the same stuff we tried as kids, that's for sure!

Person to person basis.

Everyone is affected different from its use.

I have a relative who was put on prescription anxiety drugs legally and it zombified him.  In fact I was put in some my self after surgery and I took only one pill and never took it again. Never! It was a bad experience.

Now I don't smoke.

But a relative uses it for anxiety.

I'm not talking smoking all day and night.  Just enough to regulate his anxiety  And it works well.

He doesn't abuse it. If I can say that much. And it's better than the strong drugs prescribed.  Some of that stuff prescibed is so much worse than a joint a day. Everyone as said above has an opinion.

Sure. It can be severely abused as even tramadol can be. And is. As other opioids.

I don't endorse it. But to tell the truth I see worse with alcohol.  Abuse is all around with almost everything.

Food can be called abused as some eat too much. Lol.

If it helps an individual  I see no problem with that person using.  But there is always a segment that shows off and makes it look stupid.  Like vaping. That looks stupid  Keep it to yourself. As marijuana usage. Its personal. And if your using to keep something at bay. Keep it to yourself.

Rambling. Sorry. But it's been around forever. And people are gonna smoke legally or illegally.

No two of us will ever agree on this. It's like politics  No two agree on a candidate.

Best not to ask for an opinion

It's here whether we like it or not.

(good read in other posts. Some extreme  Some not)

STRANGE,

You obviously have witnessed the bad side of cannabis use.  People that purchase it illegally have a whole range of problems.  For example drug pushers can add things to it and you are taking extra risks purchasing it from pushers.

We are talking about using it for medical purposes and purchasing it from trusted dispensaries. I have witnessed the positives for people needing relief.  Anything can be abused. This topic is about "medicinal" not recreational use.

Plus I advocate using it in edibles vs smoking.

In the UK it is very popular to mix cannabis and tobacco, however it is not as common in North America. Obviously this is not good health wise.

Vaping and edibles are the suggested way medical users partake. For some people like jpouchers and others with dietary/digestive issues, vaping or smoking is a better option. My transit time for edibles kicking in can range from 1 to 8 hours, so getting relief vaping which kicks in from 5 to 15minutes is my preference. I often take an edible in the evening to help me sleep better.

I do not suggest using the synthetic stuff, unless it's your only option. My main reason is why have fake anything if there is a reasonable natural one (even if it's been processed into oil etc). As far as I know there really isn't a over all benefit to the synthetic stuff unless you react badly to natural stuff and the possible legality.

I won't bother talking more about the legality since the question is about Medical Cannabis but I would like to say this:

I am based in Canada so that is where my information is essentially based. I know other countries, States and even our Canadian provinces have different rules, whether medical or recreational. So be aware of the rules where you live.

Because the affect on the user varies so widely I think it is hard to draw any conclusions one way or the other. I think I mentioned earlier in this thread that in college I was a friend of someone who became a professional athlete and later one of the advocates for legalizing marijuana in Oregon. He used marijuana to cope with the stress of being a star college and later professional athlete. He obviously felt it worked for him.

In my mind there is skepticism over the net benefit of marijuana to treat IBD. However I do believe it’s appropriate to let any patient have the opportunity to try it and see if it’s effective in treating either their pain or a motility or inflammatory issue. I am more skeptical as to the latter treatment objective than the former 2. In my state (CT) marijuana is legal for medicinal use and if a doctor is willing to prescribe it for any of the uses it should be up to the patient if it’s beneficial.

This thread is long on opinion and short on empirical data as to the efficacy of the 3 possible uses I have identified. While I have somewhat found interesting the discussion and various opinions expressed here, I do not feel particularly enlightened on scientific evidence to support any position. Bottom line on all of this is everyone has to experiment and draw their own conclusions.

My personal marijuana use has been limited and strictly for recreational purposes. I never particularly enjoyed marijuana and in the past mainly did so because girlfriends wanted to smoke it and I felt it was a good idea to “go along with the program”, LOL.

Happy smoking and baking and vaping to all and remember Halloween is 2 weeks away so get going on those white chocolate cannabis cookies in the shape of a witch or goblin.😁

To be honest other than the odd puff 30 years ago i’ve never actually tried Mariuana but recently i’ve Had several relatives and friends who are swearing by the results they are getting from smoking it or creams and edibles. So for me it’s worth taking a look see particularly since it just became legal here. If I have startling results i’m sure I will post them here but at this point it’s all exploratory.

I am asking the same question what strains what to use.  I am off to see my surgeon today my second follow up my third surgery was Aug and I am still suffering from pressure by my back door area.  I am going anywhere between 15-20 times a day.  I am thinking I have pouchitis I I just know what I am feeling isn't normal.  I am great pain almost all day long.

I am still on oxycodone and trying to get off 5/325, but with the pressure down there I cant seem to get off of them that is why I want to try something else so I can get off the oxycodone.

It’s now legal here for cannabis in Canada ( which I am against) unless for medical conditions... I visited a shop that sells if you have a medical card ( which I just found out my sister has for anxiety) not getting into what I think regarding that one . Anyways even know I am against it and literally hate the smell of it and have only tried it once 20 years ago I purchased a vape pen that has just the CBD in it for pain no high .
It absolutely did 0 for my pain , I ended up taking 4 drags within 45 mins because each one didn’t touch the pain which is the pressure I feel down by my back door which has radiated towards my front now. Plus I took last night a 4 mg oil tablet and that didn't do a things and  4 drags of my vape pen  .  I am guessing the dose is too weak.

Any info would be appreciated.

Any strain can possibly work, some strains have more or less Thc, CBD and other cannabinoids. What you really want to do is figure out what % of Thc or CBD works for you.

I find that CBD on its own isn't enough to help my issues, so I usually go for a mix. I know that Thc helps me and I can take a reasonably high dose.

You should always start low and go slow. Edibles can be easier than vaping or smoking because you can potentially find the exact mg dose that works for you. Vaping and smoking you need to kind of work out how to gauge how much you need or the % you prefer.

With that being said, I prefer higher Thc strains, like Diesel, purple kush, Ak47 and Cheese. I'm usually looking for something close to 20% Thc for vaping.

Alot of edibles don't come by strain, unless it's just telling you Indica or Sativa.

Everyone is different and the plants aren't equal, a bad grow can totally effect quality, so my suggestion is to figure out what you need and try different strains and you will probably find something you like.

Saw my surgeon today and she is treating me for pouchitis with flagyl hoping that will help the pressure then I don’t have to try anything. Will get a pouch scope done in a few weeks .

If that doesn’t help I will try a few different strains as mentioned above .  I asked her about trying something ( cannabis ) and she said she couldn’t help me with that . That she is neutral

it just became legal here in Ontario

She wasn’t that much help

Valli - Too bad your surgeon wasn't much help. I've always had to deal with my Internists to get pain medications.  At least she said she was neutral. I'm not telling my doctors about anything as it isn't legal in my state.  I buy it in a legal state.  If it wasn't for family we'd move.

Strange, I'm the same with prescription medication but wouldn't drive after cannabis use that contains THC.
