Hi all,

 

My takedown surgery was twelve days ago, and I just got back from the hospital yesterday after an ileus that took awhile to resolve. So far, my pouch is working well, and I'm eating a soft food diet (I'm so happy to be eating anything at all!). My output is still very liquid, so I'm going to try adding more binding foods. I'm hesitant to start Imodium right away, given how long it took my bowel to wake up and a history of obstructions. 

 

My question is, do nut butters other than creamy peanut butter work to slow output? And are they soft enough? I'm not a huge fan of peanut butter, and it seems like almond butter might be healthier. 

 

Finally, thanks for all the good information from all the other posters here. I've been reading avidly and have learned a lot about what to expect and how to handle my new pouch. So far I am very happy with my pouch!

I eat peanut, almond and cashew butters, but only the natural and unsweetened varieties.  I have not had any problems with any of them.  I also drink cashew milk, which I favor over almond, rice, soy, coconut, cow and goat milks, primarily due to taste.  It amazes me that a 25 calorie, 8 ounce glass of cashew milk can taste that good and be that creamy for only 25 calories.  It kicks ass on all other milks, in my opinion.

 

For me the nut butters all are natural thickeners but as has been stated above, individual response varies to each product.
