I was sent to see a Gyno due to the many yeast infections; apparently I'm hitting a dangerous level of medication for them (??). Something to do with the hormones the meds contain.

Anyway, she did some tests, told me I could go ahead and use the meds for another couple weeks until my surgery, which at that time was going to be next week.

Today she phoned back with test results; I have a slight bladder infection on top of everything else. She doesn't want to treat it unless I am VERY uncomfortable as the antibiotics will only make the semi-permanent yeast infection flare up.

And since I'll be having the pouch advancement rather than a muscle graft, with surgery in Amsterdam instead of here, the surgery won't be until (probably) mid-June. Which calls into question the yeast infection meds again.

Let's count: 1. blankety-blank fistula; 2. almost constant yeast infections (maybe can't be treated?); 3. stenotic stoma; 4. very bad leakage; 5. internal infection at stoma site (can't be treated); 6. bladder infection (can't be treated unless very bad; 7. delayed surgery.

I am exhausted and in pain and pretty miserable.

Bleah.

Thanks for listening,
Gin

Hi Gin,
I am so very sorry...this is not what we were hoping for....
A few suggestions for both the yeast and bladder infections:
1 lg glass of Pure cranberry juice every night before bed.
NO more baths; only showers and only use a special gynacological soap when washing down there (sold in pharmacies in Europe and in parapharmacies in most Carrefours or big superstores.
Only cotton unddies and no unddies at night when sleeping when and if possible
1 dose of probiotics on and empty stomach every morning 1/2hr before breakfast
Drink a minimum of 5 large glasses of water a day
That is what my GP and Gyn gave me to do when I was having itching, yeast and bladder infections...
It worked.
I hope that this can give you some measure of relief until surgery
Hang in there and hugs
Sharon
Thanks, all. Unfortunately I've been doing all of that and more; the stupid fistula is simply leaking so badly now that the only solution is surgery, and that will be a bit. Frowner Things had been being held (mostly) at bay, but the past two weeks have been simply horrible. I just have to manage the best I can and hope and pray there's an opening for surgery earlier rather than later.

Off to Germany in the a.m. for more cranberry juice, actually!

Every little bit helps Gin,
Next trick...homemade lemonaide 3xs/day...just squeezed lemons in pure water, fake sugar (or none) and fresh mint leaves...that along with the cranberry juice should do the trick.
There has been some success with probiotic yoghurt suppositories in the vagina (sorry, I know that it sounds gross but...)for the yeast.
Please use all natural sea salt in a warm bath or sitz bath 2xs/day...it helps too.
Hang in there...
Sharon
